The Delta State Government has announced that it will host a security summit on June 17, 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen peace and improve safety across the state.
The summit, tagged “Security: A Collective Responsibility,” will take place at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba, starting at 10:00 a.m. Governor Rt will host the event. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori is expected to bring together key stakeholders to discuss practical solutions to the state’s security challenges.
In a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr Kingsley Emu, the summit is designed to encourage cooperation among government institutions, security agencies, community leaders and residents in building a safer Delta State.
According to the statement, participants will include security chiefs, representatives of the Armed Forces, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), local government chairmen, traditional rulers, religious leaders, Presidents-General of communities, ethnic and community youth leaders, civil society organisations, transport unions and market women associations.
Dr Emu said the gathering reflects the state government’s commitment to promoting inclusive dialogue and collective action in addressing security issues. He stressed that maintaining security is not the responsibility of government and security agencies alone but requires the active involvement of all citizens.
The government urged all invited stakeholders to attend and contribute ideas that will help strengthen the state’s security framework and promote lasting peace.
The summit is also expected to support ongoing efforts by security agencies and community groups in tackling emerging threats, criminal activities and other challenges affecting public safety in Delta State.
Participants are expected to use the platform to develop a united approach to combating insecurity and enhancing the protection of lives and property across the state.
