Police operatives in Delta State have arrested two suspected armed robbers in Ughelli as part of ongoing efforts to curb crime in the area.
The suspects were arrested on June 14, 2026, during a coordinated operation carried out by the Anti-Vice Squad of the Delta State Police Command in collaboration with local vigilante members.
According to police sources, the operation followed credible intelligence that led officers to the Okorodafe area of Ughelli, where 29-year-old Moses Francis was first arrested around 4:30 p.m.
During questioning, the suspect allegedly confessed to being involved in several robbery operations, including a case on Aro Street, Ughelli, in April 2026. His confession reportedly led officers to another location, where 26-year-old Cosmos Erueseke was arrested at about 5:40 p.m.
The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrests on Tuesday, adding that both suspects are currently in custody. He said investigations are ongoing to arrest other members of the gang and recover weapons used in the crimes.
In a separate operation on the same day, police operatives on stop-and-search duty along the Ozoro/Oleh Expressway intercepted a Toyota Sienna with registration number FST 242 YK at about 4:00 a.m.
The driver reportedly abandoned the vehicle and fled into a nearby bush after being stopped and questioned by officers. Despite a chase, he escaped.
A search of the abandoned vehicle led to the discovery of a large quantity of suspected illicit drugs, including Codeine, Tramadol, Swinol, Man G, and Vega. The substances have been taken into custody, while efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspect.
The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the operatives for their professionalism and dedication. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks, fighting drug-related crimes, and improving security across the state.
