Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has described the late Chief Mike Adiotomre as a key voice for peace and reconciliation in the state, following his death at the age of 88.
Adiotomre, a prominent elder statesman and political leader from Ovu-Inland, Ethiope East Local Government Area, died recently.
In a condolence statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Festus Ahon, the governor said the deceased made significant contributions to public service, politics and peace-building in Delta State.
Oborevwori said Adiotomre was a respected father figure in Ethiope East and Delta Central whose counsel was valued across political divides.
He recalled that the late elder served the old Bendel State and Delta State in various capacities, including as Secretary of the defunct Bendel State Hospitals Management Board.
According to the governor, Adiotomre remained a voice of calm during periods of political tension and promoted dialogue among people with different political interests.
He said the deceased’s reputation for moderation and reconciliation earned him a place on the Delta State Advisory and Peace Building Council, where he served as a voice of wisdom and moderation.
“His interventions always birthed understanding, unity and reconciliation, a testament to true heroism and statesmanship,” Oborevwori said.
The governor condoled with the Adiotomre family, the people of Ethiope East and the Urhobo nation over the loss.
He prayed for the repose of the deceased’s soul and for strength for his family and associates to bear the loss.
