Indigenes and stakeholders from across the Niger Delta are expected to converge on Benin City on Sunday for the 2026 Niger Delta Ethnic Harvest Thanksgiving, with Delta State Governor’s Chief Adviser, Senator Ighoyota Amori, leading the celebration.
The thanksgiving, themed “Harvest of Abundance,” will hold from 9am at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Airport Road, Benin City.
The event is expected to bring together people from different communities across the Niger Delta for thanksgiving, cultural celebration, and a renewed call for unity.
Amori, who has coordinated the Niger Delta Ethnic Harvest for the second consecutive year, was reappointed to the position in June 2026.
The planning committee said he had been working with stakeholders and other committee members to finalise the event.
Amori also coordinated the 2025 Ethnic Pre-Harvest Thanksgiving, which was described by participants as one of the successful editions of the celebration in recent years.
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s event, Amori thanked the parish and expressed his commitment to promoting the cultural values of the Niger Delta.
He said the celebration was not only about thanksgiving but also about bringing the people together through their shared history and heritage.
“It is a profound honour to once again be called upon to coordinate this cherished celebration of our heritage,” Amori said.
“The Niger Delta Ethnic Harvest is more than a thanksgiving service; it is a reminder of who we are as a people: resilient, grateful, and bound together by shared history and shared destiny.”
He said the organisers had worked over the past months to ensure that the 2026 edition met the expectations of participants.
“So many things have taken place this year, and God has been faithful in them all,” Amori added.
The planning committee said individuals, corporate organisations and friends of the Niger Delta were welcome to support the celebration, adding that contributions would be formally acknowledged during the programme.
The event is expected to combine Christian thanksgiving with cultural expressions and community interaction, providing an opportunity for participants to celebrate the year’s blessings while strengthening bonds among Niger Delta communities.
The 2026 Niger Delta Ethnic Harvest is expected to further promote the region’s cultural heritage and encourage unity among its people.
