Two children have been rescued from a suspected drug den in Delta State after police raided several locations linked to illegal drug activities, arresting 22 suspected drug dealers.
The Delta State Police Command said the children were found in a suspected drug hideout allegedly operated by their father during an intelligence-led operation carried out on July 21.
Police spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, said the coordinated raid targeted suspected drug hotspots in Ofagbe Community, Ozoro, Ekrejeta and the NUT Area in Abraka.
According to him, 19 men and three women were arrested during the operation for alleged possession, sale and distribution of illegal drugs.
Edafe said the rescued children had been placed under protective care and would be handed over to the Delta State Ministry of Women Affairs while investigations continue.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Oyeniyi, described the presence of children in a suspected drug den as disturbing.
He said children should not be exposed to criminal environments and assured residents that the command would continue intelligence-driven operations to dismantle drug trafficking networks across the state.
Oyeniyi also appealed to parents, guardians and community leaders to support the police with credible information that could help combat drug-related crimes and improve security in Delta State.
