The Delta State Police Command has charged a 63-year-old man, Prince Chizoba Ojokwu, before an Asaba Magistrate Court over allegations that he operated a brothel and recruited women and girls for prostitution.
The suspect, identified as the owner of Prince Tarvan 50 Brothel, was among 30 people prosecuted after a police operation that led to the arrest of 202 suspects across different parts of Asaba and nearby communities.
The command disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday by its spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, saying the arrests followed an intelligence-driven raid carried out on Saturday, July 4, 2026, in locations identified as criminal hideouts.
According to the police, the operation, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, focused on black spots, brothels and suspected drug dens after credible intelligence was received by the State Intelligence Department.
The statement noted that after preliminary investigations, 172 of the arrested suspects were screened and released without charges.
It added that Ojokwu was charged before the Asaba Magistrate Court for allegedly allowing his premises to be used as a brothel and procuring women and girls for prostitution, offences punishable under Sections 224 and 223 of the Criminal Code Law of Delta State, 2006.
The police said the other 29 suspects were arraigned on charges bordering on conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace and unlawful possession of illicit drugs.
The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, said the command would continue to ensure that suspects with sufficient evidence against them are investigated and prosecuted in line with the law.
He also cautioned owners of brothels, criminal hideouts and other illegal establishments to stop engaging in unlawful activities, stressing that the command would sustain intelligence-led operations aimed at improving security across the state.
