Two Nigerian nationals have been arrested in India over alleged involvement in drug trafficking, authorities confirmed after a late-night operation in South Delhi.
The suspects, identified as Chijioke Wisdom and Chigozie, were apprehended in Maidan Garhi after law enforcement officials acted on intelligence indicating that a drug transaction was set to take place in the area. The tip-off, received on April 27, pointed to two individuals arriving to distribute illegal substances.
According to a report by The Times of India, police intercepted the suspects while they were riding a scooter. A search conducted at the scene led to the discovery of several illicit drugs in their possession.
Authorities recovered 102 grammes of cocaine, which is considered a commercial quantity under Indian law. In addition, 13 grammes of MDMA and 85 grammes of methaqualone were found, both categorized under intermediate quantities.
Police investigations revealed that Wisdom, aged 26, and Chigozie, aged 43, are originally from Lagos and Owerri respectively. Officials stated that neither of them had formally relocated to India.
Further checks showed that both men were residing in the country without valid travel documents or visas at the time of their arrest, raising additional immigration concerns alongside the drug-related charges.
Security records also indicate that Wisdom had previously been charged under India’s Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in a 2025 case linked to the Hazrat Nizamuddin area. Meanwhile, Chigozie was reportedly connected to an attempted murder case dating back to 2014 at the Dabri Mor.
A fresh case has now been filed against both suspects under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act at the Maidan Garhi police station. Authorities say investigations are ongoing as they work to uncover the broader network behind the operation and identify possible collaborators.
