Delta State Governor, Sheriff Francis Orohwedor Oborevwori, has encouraged the family of the late Mama Ruth Aruakpor to find comfort in the impactful life she lived, describing her death as the end of a remarkable journey marked by faith, service, and devotion to humanity.
The governor spoke during the funeral service of Mama Aruakpor, mother of the Anglican Bishop of Oleh Diocese, John Aruakpor, held at Saint Michael’s Anglican Church in Emevor, Isoko North Local Government Area.
Mama Aruakpor, who died on April 15, 2026, at the age of 92, was remembered by family members, church leaders, and well-wishers as a dedicated Christian, loving mother, and respected community figure.
Addressing mourners, Governor Oborevwori said the loss of a mother is always painful, regardless of one’s age, but stressed that the family should remain thankful for the long and meaningful life she lived.
He noted that a person’s success should not be measured only by how long they lived, but by the positive impact they made on others and the legacy they leave behind.
According to the governor, Mama Aruakpor’s influence is evident in the lives of her children, especially Bishop Aruakpor, and in the many people she inspired through her faith and service.
He described her as a woman whose commitment to God, family, and community would continue to be remembered by future generations.
Governor Oborevwori urged the family to focus on the memories, values, and accomplishments she left behind rather than be overwhelmed by grief.
He also prayed for God’s comfort and strength for her children, grandchildren, and other family members, while asking them to uphold the virtues for which she was known.
In his sermon, Cyril Odutemu, Archbishop of the Bendel Ecclesiastical Province of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), reminded Christians to remain faithful and prepared for the second coming of Jesus Christ.
Speaking on the theme, “Christ Is Coming Quickly,” the Archbishop said believers should live righteous lives, serve God faithfully, and show love to others, noting that earthly wealth and achievements are temporary, while a relationship with God is eternal.
He encouraged Christians to remain steadfast in their faith and focus on values that will endure beyond this life.
The funeral service drew family members, church leaders, government officials, and sympathizers who gathered to honour the memory of Mama Ruth Aruakpor and celebrate her contributions to her family, church, and community.
