God Did It — Oborevwori Celebrates 3 Years in Office

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, on Friday said the achievements of his administration in the last three years were made possible by God’s grace, wisdom and mercy.

The governor also said the state had recorded major development strides without borrowing any money, stressing that all projects were executed through prudent financial management and available funds.

Oborevwori stated this at the 2026 Delta State Thanksgiving and Praise Day held at the Dome Event Centre, Asaba, as part of activities marking his administration’s third anniversary.

He said the event was organised to appreciate God for guidance since he assumed office on May 29, 2023, describing the journey so far as “eventful, exciting and enlightening.”

The governor, who addressed political leaders, traditional rulers, clergy, government officials and residents, said his administration had implemented people-focused programmes aimed at improving living standards across the state.

According to him, several infrastructure projects had also been completed and were ongoing across different parts of Delta State within the period under review.

He said, “Today, we are celebrating three years of this administration. Indeed, this is the Lord’s doing and it is marvellous in our sight. I remain grateful to God for the opportunity to serve the people of Delta State.”

Oborevwori explained that despite challenges, his government had remained focused, adding that decisions were guided by prudence and accountability in the management of public resources.

He maintained that no project was awarded without available funding, insisting that contractors had been paid promptly without recourse to borrowing.

“We are here to thank God for the wisdom to execute development projects across the state without borrowing a kobo. Every contract awarded has funding attached, and we have met our obligations to contractors,” he said.

The governor also attributed the state’s progress to peace and security, describing them as key drivers of development and investment.

He commended security agencies for maintaining law and order, and acknowledged the contributions of former governors of the state, including Chief James Ibori, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan and Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, for laying strong foundations for development.

Oborevwori also appreciated the Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, lawmakers, traditional rulers, civil servants and other stakeholders for their support.

He called for unity among Deltans, urging residents to continue to support his administration as it moves into the next phase of its tenure.

“Delta is our home. We must continue to work together to build it. With unity, Delta will keep progressing and become an envy of other states,” he added.

Earlier in his sermon titled Ever Increasing Progress, cleric Joshua Selman said lasting progress comes from remaining connected to God and living a disciplined life of purpose.

He commended the state for sustaining its tradition of annual thanksgiving, praying for continued peace, growth and development.

Selman listed key principles for progress, including staying committed to God, avoiding distractions, seeking knowledge, humility, courage, strategic relationships and continuous thanksgiving.

He also praised the governor’s commitment to infrastructure development and urged leaders to remain focused despite challenges.

The event featured Bible readings by the Deputy Governor, praise sessions by gospel artistes, and attracted several dignitaries including former governors, lawmakers and political leaders.

A major highlight of the ceremony was the cutting of a cake to mark the administration’s third anniversary celebration.
