The All Progressives Congress House of Representatives candidate for Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, has urged Delta youths to recognise the connection between leadership at the federal, state and local government levels.
Elumelu made the call while speaking at the inauguration of the Delta Youth Transformation Movement, DYTM, in Asaba, where he challenged the youths to assess the performance of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and their local government chairmen.
“Is Governor Sheriff Oborevwori performing?” Elumelu asked the gathering.
The crowd responded with a loud “Yes!”
He followed with another question: “Are your local government chairmen performing?”
Again, the audience responded in the affirmative.
Elumelu then used the responses to make a case for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, arguing that effective leadership at the Federal Government level creates the environment that enables governors and local government chairmen to perform.
According to him, development at the grassroots cannot be viewed in isolation because government at the federal, state and local levels is interconnected.
He said when the Federal Government gets its policies and programmes right, it creates opportunities and resources that can support development at the state and local government levels.
Elumelu therefore urged the youths to look beyond individual leaders and understand how the different levels of government work together.
He also called for unity and greater grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections, saying political support should be based on an understanding of government policies and their impact on the people.
The former federal lawmaker encouraged members of DYTM to take their message to their communities and engage with young people on issues of development, empowerment and leadership.
He said the youths had an important role to play in determining the political future of the state and the country.
Elumelu’s remarks formed part of the political discussions at the DYTM inauguration, which brought together youths from the 25 local government areas of Delta State.
The event featured the inauguration of the movement’s State and Senatorial Executives and the launch of its flagship programmes focused on youth empowerment, community transformation and sustainable development.
The DYTM leadership has also pledged to mobilise its members across the state ahead of the 2027 elections.
For the young people gathered at the event, the message was clear: political participation goes beyond voting; it also requires understanding leadership, demanding development and actively contributing to the future of society.
