Delta Police Officer Praised for Returning Lost Bag Containing Valuables

A police officer attached to the patrol unit of the Delta State Command of the Nigeria Police Force, Sergeant Happy Atibaka, has been praised for his honesty and professionalism after recovering and returning a lost bag containing valuable items to its owner.

The incident reportedly occurred during a routine patrol operation within the state when the officer discovered an unattended bag suspected to have been misplaced by a resident.

According to reports, the bag contained several valuable personal belongings, including two mobile phones, a large amount of money, jewellery and other important items.

Rather than ignoring the discovery or keeping the items, Sergeant Happy Atibaka immediately initiated efforts to identify and locate the rightful owner of the bag.

The officer, alongside ASP Eko and Sergeant Ogwu Chisom, later succeeded in tracing the owner and returning the bag with all its contents intact.

The owner of the recovered bag reportedly expressed gratitude to the police officers and the Delta State Police Command for what was described as a rare display of honesty, integrity and dedication to duty.

The resident commended the officers for their professionalism and noted that their actions deserved public recognition and encouragement.

The development has also attracted praise from members of the public, many of whom described the gesture as a positive example of responsible policing and service to humanity.

Some residents stated that such acts by police officers help improve public trust and confidence in the Nigeria Police Force, especially at a time when citizens continue to demand accountability and professionalism from security agencies.

Observers and community members have also called on the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force to recognise and reward officers who distinguish themselves through integrity, discipline and commitment to public service.

They urged the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, the Delta State Police Command and other relevant authorities to continue encouraging exemplary conduct among officers across the country.

Many residents believe that rewarding honest officers would motivate others within the Force to uphold ethical standards and strengthen the relationship between the police and the public.
