The Delta State Police Command says it has arrested 202 suspects during a coordinated raid on suspected criminal hideouts, brothels and illicit drug dens across Asaba metropolis.
The operation was carried out on Saturday and was led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Department of Operations following intelligence gathered by the State Intelligence Department.
According to the police, the exercise targeted identified black spots believed to be harbouring criminal elements as part of efforts to improve security in the state capital.
The command said 102 men and 100 women were arrested during the operation for alleged offences, including operating illegal brothels, possession and sale of suspected illicit drugs and other related criminal activities.
Police operatives also impounded 25 vehicles during the raid. The vehicles include five cars, 10 tricycles and 10 motorcycles allegedly found violating traffic regulations, the state government’s restrictions on tricycle operations and the ban on motorcycle movements in designated areas.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, Mr Yemi Oyeniyi, said the operation demonstrated the command’s determination to sustain intelligence-led policing and deny criminals a haven in the state.
He said the command would continue proactive enforcement operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and tackling emerging security threats.
Oyeniyi urged residents to remain vigilant and support the police by providing timely and credible information that would assist in preventing crime and ensuring prompt response to security incidents.
The command added that similar operations would continue across the state to improve public safety, enforce existing laws and create a safer environment for residents and businesses.
