Former Delta Speaker Victor Ochei Resigns from APC

Former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Victor Ochei, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying the decision was necessary for his political growth and continued dedication to public service.

Ochei announced his resignation in a letter dated May 8, 2026, addressed to the chairman of APC Ward 4 in Onicha-Olona, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State.

The development was made public on Thursday through a statement issued by his media aide, Austin Edemodu, in Asaba.

According to the former speaker, the decision to leave the APC came after wide consultations and careful consideration of his political future and personal convictions.

Ochei explained that he joined the APC in 2016 and actively contributed to the party’s expansion and political activities across Delta State.

He noted that alongside other party members, he worked at the grassroots level to strengthen the APC’s structures, mobilise supporters and increase the party’s visibility in different communities.

“Together with many committed party faithfuls, we expanded the party’s reach, deepened its structures, mobilised support across communities, and worked tirelessly to give the party relevance and visibility within our political environment,” he stated.

The former lawmaker said his resignation was motivated by his desire to continue pursuing his political ideals and vision for service to the people.

“It is in recognition of this need for broader growth and the continuation of my political convictions that I have chosen to chart a new course,” Ochei added.

He stressed that his exit from the APC was not due to bitterness, resentment or personal disagreements with anyone in the party.

Ochei also appealed to his supporters and political associates to remain calm, peaceful and committed to democratic values despite his resignation.

He, however, did not reveal the political platform or party he intends to join next, leaving political observers speculating about his next move ahead of future political activities in the state.
