Will Smith slapped Chris Rock on stage after the comedian make jokes about his wife, Jada Pinkett, at this year’s Oscar awards.
The trouble start when Rock was onstage at the Oscars to present Best Documentary, and true to form as a stand-up comic, he began sending barbs out into the crowd.
After making a quip about Denzel Washington, Rock turned his attention to Jada Pinkett Smith, saying he was looking forward to seeing her in G.I. Jane II. (Pinkett Smith was sporting a buzzcut, just like Demi Moore’s character in the 1997 film G.I. Jane).
But Pinkett Smith has been open about her struggles with hair loss and bald spots caused by alopecia. “Mama’s gonna have to take it down to the scalp so nobody thinks she got brain surgery or something,” she wrote on Instagram in December. “I and this alopecia are going to be friends … period!”
All had seemed well until the cameras caught Smith, approaching Rock on the stage. Thereafter moved forward to slap the comedian on the face.
“Keep my wife’s name out of your… mouth,” Smith yelled while returning to his seat.
After slapping Rock in the evening, Smith won his first Oscar for his portrayal of Richard Williams, the father of Venus and Serena Williams, in King Richard.
He won the ‘Best Actor category at the 2022 Oscars.

The actor would later apologize to the organizers of the 94th annual Academy Awards and his fellow nominees for the incident in an emotional best actor acceptance speech after slapping Rock, in the evening, he won his first Oscar for his portrayal of Richard Williams, the father of Venus and Serena Williams, in King Richard.
In his acceptance speech, he said “I want to apologize to the Academy. I want to apologize to all my fellow nominees.”
“Art imitates life. I look like the crazy father, just like they said about Richard Williams. But love will make you do crazy things.”
Smith, however, did not mention Rock by name in his speech.
The 94th Academy Awards returned to the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood and had a host for the first time in four years — with Amy Schumer, Regina Hall, and Wanda Sykes co-hosting the event.
‘CODA’, the English-language remake of the 2014 French film La Famille Bélier, won all three awards it was nominated for.
This includes the ‘Best Picture’ category and a historic win for Troy Kotsur, who won for ‘Best Supporting Actor’ — becoming the first deaf man to win an Academy Award for acting.
Jane Campion won the ‘Best Director’ category for her role in ‘The Power of the Dog’ while Jessica Chastain secured her first Oscar for her performance in ‘The Eyes of Tammy Faye’.
Will Smith received his award shortly after delivering a shocking slap to Chris Rock who made a joke about Jada Pinkett, his wife, while presenting a different award.
