The African Action Congress (AAC) governorship candidate for the 2027 Delta State election, Engr. Isaac O. Eshor, has said Delta State has enough financial resources to deliver better infrastructure and development if properly managed.
Eshor stated this in an interview, where he discussed his ambition to become governor, the condition of roads across the state, the 2027 election, and the debate over zoning.
The maritime engineer and founder of the Focus Foundation argued that despite receiving huge allocations from the Federation Account, many communities in Delta still lack basic infrastructure.
He expressed concern over the poor condition of several rural roads, saying it has made life difficult for residents and affected farmers who struggle to transport their produce to markets.
Using his hometown of Ebu in Oshimili North Local Government Area as an example, Eshor said the community had been neglected for decades, with its major access road remaining in a poor condition.
He also mentioned communities in Aniocha South, Ethiope East, and Delta South, where he stated that many roads were either impassable or in urgent need of rehabilitation.
According to him, the state’s resources should be enough to fund major projects in both urban and rural areas instead of concentrating development in a few locations.
Speaking on his chances in the 2027 governorship election, Eshor said he was confident that Deltans would decide based on the performance of the current administration.
He maintained that elections provide voters with the opportunity to choose leaders they believe can improve governance and deliver meaningful development.
The AAC candidate said his administration, if elected, would focus on constructing and rehabilitating roads linking communities to boost economic activities, especially agriculture.
He said improving road infrastructure would help farmers move their produce to markets, encourage business growth and improve the standard of living of residents.
Eshor also promised to ensure accountability in the use of public funds, insisting that government projects should have a direct impact on the lives of the people.
On the issue of zoning, the AAC candidate said leadership should be based on competence rather than political arrangements.
He argued that the Nigerian Constitution gives every qualified citizen the right to contest for public office and that voters should decide based on a candidate’s capacity, integrity and vision.
While acknowledging the views of those who support power rotation among the state’s senatorial districts, Eshor said the priority should be electing a leader capable of moving Delta State forward.
He added that he was consulting widely across the state and engaging with residents as part of his preparations for the 2027 governorship election.
