Ughelli North APC Endorses Omonade for Second Term

Leaders and elders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ughelli North Constituency I have unanimously adopted the incumbent lawmaker, Hon. Matthew Omonade, as their consensus candidate for a second term in the Delta State House of Assembly.

The adoption was reached on Saturday during an enlarged leadership meeting held at the country home of APC founding leader in Delta State, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, in Evwreni.

The meeting brought together key stakeholders and party leaders from the five wards that make up the constituency, with discussions focused on the party’s strategy ahead of the forthcoming primaries and an assessment of the performance of the sitting lawmaker.

The motion for Omonade’s adoption was moved by Chief Lucky Oghene-Omoru, leader of Ughelli North Federal Ward 2, who described the lawmaker’s return to the assembly as necessary, citing his legislative achievements and constituency projects.

According to him, Omonade has demonstrated effective representation and delivered impactful grassroots interventions across the constituency.

The motion was seconded by Chief Alfred Onavwa and unanimously adopted through a voice vote conducted by Hon. Samuel Marierie, effectively positioning Omonade as the sole APC consensus candidate ahead of the primaries.

In a related development, party leaders also passed a vote of confidence in Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, commending what they described as his inclusive leadership style and commitment to internal democracy within the party.

Another motion commended O’tega Emerhor for his leadership of the Ughelli North APC Leadership Council, with stakeholders expressing confidence in his direction and role in strengthening party unity.

Addressing the gathering, Emerhor said the decision to adopt Omonade followed extensive consultations across the constituency and reflected the collective will of party leaders to reward performance and ensure continuity.

“I called this meeting in my capacity as Chairman of the Ughelli North APC Leadership Council. The five wards that make up this constituency are represented here, and the decision taken reflects the voice of the people,” he said.

He described Omonade as one of the most outstanding members of the Delta State House of Assembly, highlighting his legislative contributions, engagement with constituents, and respect for party leadership.

“Hon. Matthew Omonade has performed excellently. He is articulate, presents bills effectively, and has impacted lives across the constituency,” Emerhor stated.

He further emphasised the importance of retaining experienced lawmakers, noting that Omonade’s return would enhance the constituency’s influence and attract greater development opportunities.

“There is a strong desire for him to return because having a ranking member in the House will bring more benefits to the constituency,” he added.

Emerhor also disclosed that Omonade is currently the only aspirant who has purchased the party’s nomination form for the seat, describing the consensus arrangement as part of the APC’s broader strategy to promote unity ahead of the elections.

The meeting was attended by several prominent party stakeholders, including community leaders, former office holders, and political figures from across the constituency.

With the endorsement, Omonade is expected to head into the APC primaries with strong backing from party leadership in Ughelli North Constituency I.
