A human rights organisation, Ontop Cares Human Rights Organization, has petitioned the Nigeria Police Force over the alleged assault and abuse of a two-year-old girl, Blessing Obi, reportedly involving her biological father.
The organisation, in a petition dated August 27, 2026, and addressed to the Area Commander, Asaba Area Command, Delta State, called for an immediate investigation into the allegations and appropriate legal action if the claims are established.
The petition was signed by the organisation’s Director-General, Comrade Ajemba Stanley.
The group alleged that the child was subjected to physical assault and injuries and that some of the alleged acts were capable of causing serious bodily harm.
It further alleged that the circumstances raised concerns about the child’s life and safety, including a possible case of attempted murder.
However, the allegations contained in the petition have not been independently established, and the matter is subject to police investigation.
The organisation said it had evidence supporting the complaint and was prepared to make the materials available to the police for examination.
It said the child’s age made the matter particularly concerning because she was dependent on adults for her safety and could not independently report abuse or remove herself from a potentially dangerous environment.
The group urged the police to immediately ensure the child’s safety pending the outcome of the investigation.
Among its requests, the organisation asked the police to invite and question the alleged suspect, obtain statements from relevant witnesses and arrange a medical examination of the child where necessary.
It also called for the preservation and examination of available photographs, videos, medical records, messages and other relevant evidence.
The organisation further requested that the matter be referred to the appropriate Criminal Investigation Department or the Juvenile, Women and Children/GBV Unit for specialised investigation.
It said that if the investigation established sufficient evidence, the suspect should be prosecuted before a competent court for the appropriate offences.
The rights group also asked the police to keep it informed of the progress of the investigation, subject to applicable confidentiality requirements.
The organisation stressed that its primary concern was the protection and wellbeing of the child.
It said being the child’s biological father did not give anyone the right to subject her to violence or treatment capable of causing serious injury.
The group pledged to cooperate with the police and provide the evidence in its possession to assist the investigation.
It urged the police to treat the matter with urgency and ensure that anyone found responsible was dealt with according to the law.
