Omo-Agege: ₦750bn Idle While Deltans Struggle with Poverty and Insecurity

Former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, has criticised the Delta State Government, alleging that about ₦750 billion remains idle in government accounts despite rising poverty, unemployment, insecurity and infrastructure challenges across the state.

Speaking during an interview on Arise TV’s Morning Show, Omo-Agege argued that the state has received enormous revenues in recent years but has not achieved the level of development expected by residents.

According to him, Delta State has generated more than ₦3.15 trillion in revenue over the last three years. However, he claimed that there is little to show for the huge income beyond a few infrastructure projects.

Omo-Agege stated that many communities continue to struggle with poor roads, unemployment, insecurity, and other social challenges, despite the significant resources available to the state government.

The former governorship candidate maintained that governance should be measured by the impact it has on the lives of citizens rather than by political titles or public appearances.

“Being governor is not just about occupying an office. It is about delivering results, implementing policies and improving the welfare of the people,” he said.

He also expressed confidence in his party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election, describing him as experienced, competent and knowledgeable in business and resource management.

According to Omo-Agege, the candidate has the capacity to manage public resources effectively, create economic opportunities and address key issues affecting residents.

He said the next administration should focus on tackling poverty, creating jobs, improving security and investing in infrastructure that directly benefits communities across the state.

The former Senate leader argued that with the level of resources available to Delta State, more progress should have been recorded in critical sectors.

He added that effective leadership and prudent management of public funds are necessary to ensure that government revenues translate into tangible improvements in the lives of citizens.

Omo-Agege’s comments come as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections continue to gather momentum in Delta State, with political parties positioning themselves for the governorship contest.
