Oborevwori Promises Transparency as Revenue Verification Exercise Begins in Delta

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has assured the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMFAC) of his administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability as the commission begins a nationwide data verification exercise in the state.

Speaking on Monday while receiving an RMFAC delegation at Government House, Asaba, the governor said Delta State was fully prepared for the exercise and would provide all the information needed to ensure a successful verification process.

The delegation was led by RMFAC Team Leader, Mohammed Kabir Usman, and the Federal Commissioner representing Delta State in the commission, Mr Aruviere Martins Egharhevwa.

Oborevwori said his administration had invested heavily in key sectors, including healthcare, education, roads and other infrastructure projects across the state’s 25 local government areas.

“We remain committed to prudence, accountability and transparency in managing public resources,” the governor said.

“We have invested massively in hospitals, schools and other social infrastructure. These projects are visible, and you can verify them yourself.”

He noted that all local government chairmen and relevant government agencies had been informed about the exercise and instructed to make available all necessary records for verification.

According to him, the state government has nothing to hide and welcomes a thorough assessment of its projects and facilities.

“I have already met with the 25 local government council chairmen and directed them to come with their reports and be ready for verification. We are fully prepared,” he said.

The governor also urged members of the verification team to visit project sites and inspect facilities personally instead of relying only on official reports.

“What we want is fairness. We are not asking for anything that does not belong to us. We only want our records and achievements to be properly verified,” he stated.

“Don’t remain in Asaba and depend solely on documents. Go out and inspect the hospitals, schools and other facilities. See the projects for yourselves and verify the records.”

Oborevwori added that Delta State, as one of the country’s major revenue contributors, deserved an objective assessment based on facts and existing infrastructure.

Earlier, RMFAC Team Leader, Mohammed Kabir Usman, said the commission was in Delta State to launch a nationwide exercise aimed at updating and validating data used in sharing revenue among states and local governments.

He explained that the exercise forms part of RMFAC’s constitutional responsibility to review the revenue allocation formula and ensure it reflects current realities across the country.

According to him, factors such as population growth, infrastructure development and emerging challenges make it necessary to regularly verify data used in determining revenue allocation.

“The review of the revenue allocation formula is at an advanced stage, and we need to confirm the accuracy of the data that will guide future revenue sharing,” Usman said.

He disclosed that the commission had trained state and local government officials on data management and had introduced digital tools to improve the accuracy of data collection.

Usman assured the governor that the verification exercise would be conducted professionally, transparently and fairly.

He also commended the Oborevwori administration for ongoing infrastructure and urban renewal projects across the state.

“I have seen the urban renewal projects, the flyovers and the specialist hospital under construction. These are clear signs of progress and development,” he said.
