Delta State Governor, Sheriff Francis Orohwedor Oborevwori, has said the peaceful atmosphere and development witnessed across the state in the last three years are the result of strong cooperation between the Executive and Legislative arms of government.
The governor made the remark during the 3rd Anniversary Thanksgiving Service of the 8th Delta State House of Assembly held at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Unity Model Parish, Asaba.
According to Oborevwori, the cordial relationship between his administration and the State House of Assembly has helped create stability and improve governance, making it easier to deliver development projects and other benefits to the people.
He praised the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, and members of the Assembly for their commitment, maturity, and support for policies aimed at advancing the state.
The governor said the lawmakers have played an important role in strengthening governance through constructive engagement and cooperation with the Executive arm.
Oborevwori also assured that his administration would continue to respect the principles of democracy by recognizing the constitutional roles of the Legislature while providing leadership guided by integrity and the fear of God.
He commended the Assembly for maintaining its tradition of holding thanksgiving services at the beginning of each legislative year, describing it as an act of gratitude for God’s blessings and guidance.
The governor encouraged political leaders and citizens to continue praying for those in positions of authority, stressing that faith in God has remained a key factor behind the successes recorded by his administration.
He further urged lawmakers to strengthen communication with people in their constituencies by explaining government policies, programmes, and projects at the grassroots level.
According to him, legislators serve as an important link between government and the people and can help ensure that citizens understand ongoing development efforts while also bringing community needs to the attention of government.
Oborevwori added that development projects are being implemented across the state through a budgeting system that allows lawmakers to contribute to identifying priority needs in their constituencies.
Speaking at the event, Speaker Guwor said the thanksgiving service was organized to appreciate God for His guidance and blessings since the inauguration of the 8th Assembly in June 2023.
He noted that the Assembly has continued to carry out its constitutional responsibilities through lawmaking, oversight functions, and stakeholder engagement aimed at promoting good governance and improving the welfare of citizens.
Guwor also applauded the harmonious relationship among the Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary, describing it as one of the major reasons for the stability and progress being recorded in Delta State.
In a sermon titled “Wisdom for Excellent Service,” Pastor John Oyomah encouraged leaders to rely on God’s wisdom in carrying out their responsibilities.
The cleric commended Governor Oborevwori for ongoing infrastructure projects across the state and urged public office holders to continue serving with dedication and humility.
The event was attended by several prominent personalities, including former Delta State governors James Ibori and Ifeanyi Okowa, government officials, lawmakers, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders.
