Delta Moves to Restore Electricity in Isoko, Ndokwa Communities

Residents of several communities in the Isoko and Ndokwa areas of Delta State may soon enjoy improved electricity supply as the state government begins plans to rehabilitate and expand critical power infrastructure.

The Delta State Government, through the Ministry of Energy, has commenced procurement processes for major electricity projects to restore power to communities affected by years of inadequate infrastructure and vandalism.

According to an Invitation to Tender issued by the ministry and signed by the Secretary of the Ministerial Tenders Board, T.O. Bayoko, one of the projects involves the construction of a 33KV overhead high-voltage line from Emevor through Otor-Owhe to Isoko Roundabout. The project will also include the rehabilitation of damaged sections of the existing 33 kV line between Iyede and Ellu in the Isoko North Local Government Area.

The government said the project is expected to improve electricity supply across the Isoko axis and support economic activities in the affected communities.

Another key project will focus on the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the vandalised 33 kV power line from Abbi through Emu-Obodeti to the Kwale 7.5MVA Injection Station in Ndokwa West Local Government Area.

The intervention is expected to restore a stable power supply to communities that have experienced prolonged outages due to damage to critical electricity infrastructure.

In Asaba, the Ministry of Energy also plans to upgrade the existing 500KVA Independent Power Project (IPP) transformer at the Permanent Secretary’s Quarters to a 1000KVA transformer to strengthen electricity distribution within the state capital.

The ministry invited qualified contractors to submit bids for the projects, highlighting the state government’s commitment to improving power infrastructure under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E. Agenda.

Observers believe the projects will help boost economic growth, support businesses, improve security, and enhance living conditions in the benefiting communities once completed.

Since assuming office, Governor Oborevwori has continued to invest in infrastructure development, with particular attention to the power sector following the enactment of the Delta State Electricity Power Sector Law aimed at expanding access to reliable electricity.

The planned projects are expected to bring relief to thousands of residents and businesses in Isoko and Ndokwa communities while further driving development across the state.
