Dangote daughters reveal why they keep low profile despite family wealth

The three daughters of billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote have said they prefer to let their business results speak for them rather than seek attention on social media or flaunt their family wealth.

Halima, Fatima and Mariya Dangote made the disclosure during a Bloomberg Next Africa interview, where they discussed their roles in the family business and the plans to grow the Dangote Group into a $100bn enterprise.

Halima said she and her sisters were naturally reserved and did not feel the need to constantly tell people who they were or what they owned.

“We are more… we are quiet in the sense that we don’t say who we are,” she said.

According to her, life was easier when people did not recognise them because their achievements could speak for themselves.

“Now people recognise us, but it was easier when we were not recognised, you know, our results spoke for itself,” she added.

Halima also said the sisters were different from people who were comfortable with social media popularity and public recognition.

“All three of us, we’re not expressive of what we have or what we own or what we’re doing,” she said.

She explained that the sisters preferred to point to measurable results, including business sales, profits and growth.

“We are all in those key positions, and I mean, numbers don’t lie. So that’s it,” Halima said.

The comments come as the Dangote family continues to formalise the sisters’ roles in the conglomerate as part of a long-term succession plan. Their responsibilities span major areas of the group, including the family office, oil and gas, cement and food businesses.
