abducted Anglican priest released after N600,000 Ransom

The Anglican Priest at Oko Agbele in Oshimili South local government area of Delta State, Revd. Anthony Oyi who was kidnapped by suspected herders while working in his farm at Issele-Mkpitime in Aniocha north local government area has repossessed freedom.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Onome Onovwakpoyeya, confirmed he was released at about 6:00 pm local time yesterday, Sunday.

The police image maker said she could not confirm if the ransom was paid, but that efforts were still being made by the police to arrest the fleeing suspects.

It was also alleged that the sum of N600,000 had been paid to the abductors of the Anglican priest before his release.

Revd. Oyi was kidnapped alongside his wife and children while in his farm working on Saturday morning at Issele-Mkpitime.

The kidnappers, however at a second thought, left the wife and children to go look for ransom to release their father whom they took away.

Recall that the abductors had released the wife and children to look for money to be able to pay as a ransom for the husband’s release.

But the church said the kidnapped priest was doing his farm work when he was kidnapped, saying the church has nothing to do with the saga, a source said.
