Delta approves Warri Ring Road, Ugbolu-Illah reconstruction

The Delta State Government has approved road rehabilitation and reconstruction projects in Warri, Effurun and other parts of the state, including the first phase of the Warri Ring Road and the Ugbolu-Illah Road in Oshimili North Local Government Area.

The approvals were granted at the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori at Government House, Asaba.

The Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, disclosed this while briefing journalists after the meeting.

Aniagwu said the council approved the reconstruction of the Warri Ring Road from First Marine Gates to Port Gate, as well as the rehabilitation of the road from Old Port Gate to the NPA Expressway.

The council also approved the rehabilitation and asphalt overlay of Airport Road in Warri, Jakpa Road in Effurun and Refinery Road in Effurun.

He said the projects were intended to improve road conditions and ease movement in the Warri-Effurun area, adding that the deteriorating condition of Refinery Road had made its rehabilitation urgent.

According to him, the governor directed the Ministry of Works to assess Refinery Road and submit a proposal to the council for approval.

The council also approved extensions to the ongoing flyover project at Otovwodo Junction in Ughelli and the adjoining road corridor, as well as an extension of the project towards College Junction in Agbor.

In Oshimili North, the approved projects include the reconstruction and rehabilitation of Ugbolu-Illah Road, construction of Dr Sunday Okonji Drive, Opone Street and Dr and Mrs Ojogho Street, and completion of Chief Patrick Ukah Way in Okpanam towards Okotomi Quarters.

Other approvals cover A.I. Mofo Street in Otor-Udu, Udu Local Government Area; Iwezue Street in Boji-Boji; and the reconstruction of Emede Internal Road in Isoko South in two phases.

The council also approved Eziokpor Road Phase II, including a spur to Odalonu Street, in Obiaruku, Ukwuani Local Government Area. In Okpe, the projects include Eyimofe Street in Orerokpe, Guest House Road in Ugbokodo and Zion Street in Ughoton.

In Asaba, the approved roads include Paul Enebeli Close, Opene Street, Waterholic Street and Flourish Garden Apartment Lane, with a spur to Princess Ajudua Extension. Oyemike Street, including a spur off Ralph Uwhechue Road, was also approved.

Beyond road projects, the council approved permanent office buildings for the Delta State Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Rural Development Agency.

Aniagwu said the electricity commission’s office would support the state’s efforts to develop its electricity market under the regulatory framework that gives state governments a greater role in the power sector.

The council also approved an ultra-modern MBA lecture theatre at Delta State University, Abraka, and a clubhouse for civil servants at the State Secretariat in Asaba.

Aniagwu said the government would continue implementing its development plans despite preparations for the 2027 general elections.
