“You have only started. Do more,” President Bola Tinubu told his son, Seyi, on Monday, urging him to expand his youth mobilisation activities through the City Boy Movement and set an example for future generations.
The President gave the charge at an event organised by the movement at the State House, Abuja, where he praised his son and his colleagues for engaging young people without seeking political titles or public office.
Tinubu said he had received calls from people asking what political position Seyi was seeking through the movement.
“I got some calls within the last few weeks asking me what is Seyi running for. He’s running after his father,” the President said.
He commended the group for investing their time in listening to young people and organising them, adding that their efforts deserved encouragement.
“You did it humbly. You did not ask for a title or an office. You went to the young people, your age groups, your group. You listened to them and you organised them. I am proud of all of you,” he said.
However, Tinubu urged his son not to rest on his achievements, but to expand his efforts and serve the country more actively.
“Go further. Serve harder. Set an example that your own children, my grandchildren, will be proud to follow,” he said.
The President added that young Nigerians should see service to the country as an honour, saying the nation was watching the younger generation.
“Nigeria is watching so they know that to serve your country is the highest honour,” he said.
Seyi Tinubu is the patron of the City Boy Movement, a group that mobilises young people in support of the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The movement has organised activities focused on grassroots mobilisation and youth participation in public affairs.
At a colloquium marking his 41st birthday in Lagos on October 12, Seyi urged young Nigerians to participate in decision-making and take responsibility for shaping the country’s future.
