DOPF names lawyer Umahi as panelist, Emina as moderator

The legal implications of artificial intelligence and digital publishing will be among the issues to be discussed at the 2026 Annual Conference and 6th Lecture Series of the Delta Online Publishers Forum in Asaba, Delta State, on Wednesday.

Legal practitioner, Godswill O. Umahi, will join the panel, while Professor Kemi Anthony Emina, OdiEga, will moderate the discussion.

The conference, with the theme, “Democracy Under Pressure: Electoral Integrity, Security Challenges, and Media Accountability,” will hold at David’s Event Centre, GRA, Asaba. Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, is expected to attend as the Special Guest of Honour.

In a statement on Sunday, the Chairman of the conference planning committee, Deacon Chijioke Williams Ugbolue, and the Secretary, Josephine Omodior, said Umahi’s legal experience would help examine the challenges facing online publishers in an increasingly technology-driven media environment.

They said his areas of expertise included data privacy, regulatory compliance, artificial intelligence, technology law and the rule of law.

According to the organisers, these issues have implications for electoral integrity, public accountability and the use of digital platforms to disseminate information.

Umahi has more than 10 years of legal experience, with a practice covering land, contract, criminal and civil matters. He also holds professional certifications in artificial intelligence, the General Data Protection Regulation and business start-up management.

Professor Emina, who will moderate the panel, has a background in philosophy, journalism, broadcasting and public communication.

He was among the pioneer staff of the Delta Printing and Publishing Company Limited, publishers of The Pointer, before joining the Nigerian Television Authority.

Emina, a former Worldwide President of the University of Ibadan Alumni Association, also served on the university’s Governing Council and currently chairs the board of UI Ventures Limited. His academic interests include development philosophy and African metaphysics.

The organisers said his experience would help guide discussions on electoral credibility, security challenges and the media’s responsibility to the public.

The conference is expected to bring together journalists, academics, legal practitioners, policymakers and other stakeholders to discuss challenges facing Nigeria’s democracy and media industry.
