The Independent National Electoral Commission has scheduled September 19, 2026, for elections to fill five vacant legislative seats across Gombe, Kano, Bauchi and Delta states.
The commission announced the date on its official X handle on Friday, saying voting would take place at polling units within the affected constituencies.
The elections will hold from 8:30am to 2:30pm.
The constituencies affected are Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency in Gombe State; Dawakin Kudu State Constituency in Kano; Sakwa and Disina State Constituencies in Bauchi; and Udu State Constituency in Delta.
The five seats became vacant following the death, resignation, defection and movement of former lawmakers to contest other elections.
In Gombe, the seat became vacant following the death of the federal lawmaker, Yaya Bauchi Tongo, in June 2026.
In Bauchi, the lawmaker representing Sakwa State Constituency died, while the former member representing Disina resigned from the Assembly to contest for a chairmanship position.
The Udu seat in the Delta State House of Assembly became vacant after the former lawmaker, Collins Egbetamah, defected from the All Progressives Congress to the Nigeria Democratic Congress.
In Kano, the Dawakin Kudu State Constituency seat became vacant after its former representative, Rabiu Shuaibu, left the Assembly to contest the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency seat.
Shuaibu won the federal constituency by-election held in June, defeating candidates of the Allied Peoples Movement and the Labour Party.
INEC said the September 19 exercise would therefore determine new representatives for the five constituencies and fill the vacancies in the affected legislative houses.
