Delta Intensifies Drive to Attract Local, Foreign Investors

The Delta State Government says it is intensifying efforts to attract local and foreign investors by improving infrastructure, expanding electricity supply and promoting the state’s natural and maritime resources.

The Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, disclosed this on Wednesday during a press briefing in Asaba ahead of the Delta State Economic and Investment Summit 2026, scheduled to hold from August 3 to 5.

Emu said the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori had invested significantly in roads, bridges, power and transport infrastructure to create a business-friendly environment.

According to him, the state has built and rehabilitated more than 2,600 kilometres of roads and over 20 bridges, improving access to communities and connecting major economic centres.

He described the Delta Special Economic Zone as one of the state’s biggest investment attractions, saying its location near the OB-3 gas pipeline provides access to affordable and reliable electricity.

“The infrastructure is already in place. Government has created an enabling environment, and investors can enjoy competitive energy costs that are difficult to find in many other states,” Emu said.

He disclosed that the state currently generates about 8.5 megawatts of electricity through its independent power infrastructure to supply government offices and public institutions, adding that ongoing reforms would improve power supply for businesses and industries.

The SSG also highlighted Delta’s strategic location, noting that the state has four seaports, two airports and a 163-kilometre Atlantic coastline, making it attractive for investment.

He said the government was promoting investment opportunities in the blue economy, including aquaculture, commercial fishing, seafood processing, fish feed production, cold-chain logistics and marine transportation.

Emu added that Delta also has large deposits of coal, lignite, kaolin and silica, which offer opportunities in mining, manufacturing and power generation.

He said the state government had spent the past three years engaging investors in countries such as China and Brazil, with several companies from both countries expected to participate in the investment summit.

According to him, the government has also developed investment guides and launched a summit website to provide investors with easy access to information.

Emu expressed confidence that the summit would attract investments that would boost industrialisation, create jobs and increase exports.

“We have the resources, infrastructure, connectivity and political will. What we need now is partnership with investors who are ready to grow with Delta,” he said.
