The Delta State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comr. Izeze Rume Yakubu Reuben Esq., has praised the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Samuel Ogbuku, for the installation of 245 solar-powered streetlights in Oginibo Community, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.
The streetlight project, which represents the first phase of the initiative, is expected to improve security, support economic activities, and enhance the living conditions of residents in the community.
Izeze, who hails from Oginibo, expressed his appreciation in a Facebook post, describing the project as a major development for the area and a sign of the Federal Government’s commitment to improving infrastructure in communities across the Niger Delta region.
Referring to the impact of the project, the commissioner said the intervention has brought much-needed illumination to Oginibo and reflects the goals of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He thanked Ogbuku and the NDDC management for facilitating the project and noted that it is the first Federal Government-backed project to be executed in Oginibo Community since the administration of former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.
According to him, the appointment of experienced and capable individuals from the Niger Delta region to lead the NDDC has contributed to the commission’s renewed focus on development and service delivery.
Izeze stated that the solar-powered streetlights would help improve public safety at night, encourage business activities, and make movement easier for residents and visitors.
While commending the completion of the first phase, he appealed to the commission to fast-track the second phase of the project to ensure wider coverage across the community.
The commissioner also called on the NDDC to support the electrification of the Oginibo New Town Extension through the provision of a 500KVA transformer, cables, and other necessary accessories.
He said the community looks forward to additional development projects that would improve infrastructure and enhance the welfare of residents.
Izeze further offered prayers for Ogbuku, members of the NDDC Board and Management, Governor Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, the people of Oginibo Community, Delta State, and Nigeria.
The solar-powered streetlight project is expected to transform the nighttime environment of Oginibo and reflect the NDDC’s ongoing efforts to provide sustainable infrastructure across communities in the Niger Delta.
