Something surprising happened in Ughelli, a town in Delta State, Nigeria. A man named Chief Jaro Egbo, who is the chairman (big boss) of the local government council in Ughelli North, has been stopped from attending family meetings or taking part in any family activities—for now.
What Did He Do Wrong?
His family, the Abovwe family of Uduere, said that he did many things that hurt and disrespected them. On May 12, 2025, the family’s elders held a special meeting at the Abovwe Hall and decided to suspend him from all family matters.
Here are the main things they say he did:
- He hurt the elders. The family said that on April 29, he got into a fight and physically attacked some of the older family members in his compound. This upset the entire family because elders are supposed to be respected.
- He took more land than he paid for. They said he paid for 6 acres of land but is using 11 acres—almost double what he bought.
- He didn’t bring electricity like he promised. The family gave him ₦8 million more than three years ago to install electricity poles in their part of the community. But they say he didn’t do the work, and the money is gone.
- He lied to get land for a church. He asked for land, saying he would build an Anglican church, but the family claims he sold it instead to make money for himself.
- He hasn’t paid back money he borrowed. During hard times in Abuja, he was given money from land sales by the family to support himself. The elders say he has not returned it.
- He’s trying to take over family leadership. The family said he has threatened the real family chairman and is trying to act like he’s the boss. They even say he threatened to jail the oldest man in the family who disagreed with him.
What Happens Next?
The elders said he is no longer allowed to join any family event or meeting until he says sorry, returns the money, and explains himself clearly. They want him to show that he respects the family and their traditions.
What Does Jaro Egbo Say?
He hasn’t spoken about the issue yet. But one of his close friends said that corruption is fighting back. According to the friend, some elders are angry because Egbo wouldn’t allow them to break the family rules for selfish reasons. That’s why they are now accusing him.
Why This Story Matters
This shows that even powerful people must follow rules and respect others—especially their own family. And if someone is accused of doing something wrong, they must speak up and try to fix the problem.
Let’s wait and see if Jaro Egbo will explain his side and make peace with his family.
