Five Primary School Heads Suspended Over Illegal Levies in Delta

The Delta State Government has taken action against five primary school headteachers for making students pay fees they shouldn’t have. This announcement was made on Friday, January 31, 2025, by the State Ministry of Information in Asaba. The statement was signed by Theresa Adiabua-Oliko, the Permanent Secretary.

The government said the headteachers were suspended to stop corruption in schools. The decision came after Dr. Kingsley Ashibogwu, the Commissioner for Primary Education, visited some schools to investigate the issue.

The headteachers were found guilty of forcing students to pay illegal fees for the 2025 Cognitive and Placement Examination, which was supposed to be free. The schools involved are:

  1. Asamala Primary School, Ugiliamai (Ndokwa West LGA)
  2. Abraka Model Primary School, Abraka (Ethiope East LGA)
  3. Ekrejeta Primary School, Abraka (Ethiope East LGA)
  4. Origin Primary School, Orogun (Ughelli North LGA)

The government made it clear that they won’t tolerate any form of cheating or unfair treatment in schools. They also warned that anyone caught breaking the rules will face serious consequences.

This move shows the government’s commitment to making sure education is fair and accessible for all students in Delta State.
