Govt Issues Strong Warning On Residents Who Dispose Waste Randomly In Delta

The Delta State Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Jamani Tommy Ejiro said the administration of Rt Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori will not tolerate the random disposal of waste by residents in the state.

He said a task force has already been constituted to monitor the situation as any defaulter who flouts the environmental law will be met to face the wrath of the law.

Jamani disclosed this while speaking with journalists at his office on Wednesday in Asaba, the state capital.

He said the task of keeping the environment clean is everyone’s business but some residents are behaving indiscriminately in a manner that does not indicate concern about the environmental laws in the state.

According to him, His Excellency, Oborevwori is looking towards making the state one of the cleanest states in the country as it is planning to go into a zero-waste policy that will enable companies that are interested in transforming the waste into something else to come invest and recycle it into whatever they want, adding that the policy will also enable residents to generate money from their waste.

Speaking on the issue of open grazing and the environmental hazards it has caused, Jamani said that the age-old practice of herders roaming about with their cattle in the roadway while their cattle urinate randomly will also not be taken for granted.

He added that he would invite the cattle breeders to address them about the situation as it would not be business as usual.
