The Ogun State Magistrate Court in Ifo on Monday arraigned controversial singer, Badmus Habeeb Okikiola better known as Portable for assault.
It was gathered that the singer had been in police custody since Friday after he was arrested by the police.
According to the charges, the singer was accused of assaulting a police Inspector and also resisting arrest.
Part of that charges read: “That you Badmus Habeeb Okikiola, aka Portable, and others now at large on the 28″ day of March 2023 at 11:00hrs at Odogwu Bar, Oke-Osa, Ilogbo, Ifo in the Ifo Magisterial District, did willfully cause or inflict physical injury on one Inspector Hammed Moshood ‘m’ with your elbow on his nose, which caused blood to gush out from his nose and thereby committed an offense contrary to and punishable under Section 4 (1) of the Violence against persons & Prohibition Laws of Ogun State of Nigeria, 2017.
“That you Badmus Habeeb Okikiola, M. aka Portable, on the same date, time, and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District did resist to be arrested by Inspector Hammed Moshood ‘m’, ASP Gregory Iyoha ‘m’, ASP Kunle Badmus ‘m’ after serving you with Police Invitation Letter on the 20 days of January 2023 for the offenses you committed when they were about to discharge their duty with a warrant of arrest on you thereby committed an offense contrary to and punishable under Section 197 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State of Nigeria, 2006.”
Portable, though, pleaded not guilty to all the charges against him.
The magistrate granted him bail of N300,000, with two sureties from his immediate family.
The court held that Portable must fulfill the bail condition before leaving the court premises.
He is to be remanded at the Ilaro correctional center until he perfects the condition of his bail.
The case has been adjourned to April 26.
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) earlier said Portable will face more than six charges bordering on alleged assault in court.
Portable was arrested on Friday after the expiration of the 72-hour ultimatum given to him by the police to turn himself in.
The ‘Zazoo Zeh’ crooner’s saga began last Tuesday after he had resisted arrest by the police in Ogun state.
The singer argued that the arrest was “unwarranted,” adding that he makes his money “legitimately.”
The 29-year-old also referred to himself as “a federal government liability”.
Muyiwa Adejobi, the NPF’s public relations officer, said portable will be charged with “assault” — apart from “resisting arrest and injuring a police officer”.
“He will be charged to court for beating up a guy in Ota, who filed a petition to CP Ogun,” Adejobi wrote on Twitter.
“There are many pending cases of assaults on people and attacks, and he will be investigated because people have complained against him.
“So, there is no sentiment in law, let him appear in court, and allow the judge to listen to the charges against him. He has no constitutional immunity anyway.”
