A former aide to Ex-Presidents, Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, Doyin Okupa has been under attack on social media over a comment he made upsetting the Igbos in preparation for the 2023 presidency.
The former presidential aide had revealed the reason why the Northerners will not support the Igbo presidency come 2023.
Okupa who made some tweets on Saturday explained why the Northerners are yet to forgive the Igbos over what happened as a coup in 1966 when Sardauna of Sokoto was killed.
Okupa maintains that “A national consensus for Igbo Presidency cannot evolve until the core north forgives the Igbos for the killing of Sardauna of Sokoto in 1966 coup by the Nigerian soldiers of Igbo extraction.
The former presidential aide further maintains that if the consensus is not achievable, he will run for president in 2023 by God’s grace.
He said the political situation is something only the Igbo leaders must spearhead and with the support of other well-meaning Nigerians which will be resolved with a high level of humility and political dexterity.
He said if this consensus emerges, in the interest of equity, fairness, and national unity, he will shelve his ambition and support whoever is chosen as his party candidate.
The former presidential aide, who declared his interest to run in the 2023 presidency, also pointed out that if the Igbo could reach a consensus with the North, he will shelve his ambition.
