Tinubu Reshuffles Cabinet, Appoints Oyedele as Finance Minister

Abuja, April 21, 2026 — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle of his cabinet, resulting in the exit of two ministers and the appointment of new officials to key positions within the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

The announcement was made in an official statement issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and signed by George Akume.

According to the statement, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, have been directed to step down from their positions.

In a swift replacement, Taiwo Oyedele, who previously served as Minister of State for Finance, has been elevated to take over as the new Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. His promotion is seen as part of efforts to maintain continuity in economic management.

Meanwhile, Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named as the ministerial nominee and minister-designate for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, pending confirmation.

The statement further directed that Dangiwa should hand over responsibilities to the current Minister of State in the Housing Ministry until the transition is completed.

All handover processes are expected to be concluded by the close of business on Thursday, April 23, 2026.

Explaining the rationale behind the reshuffle, Akume noted that the changes are intended to “strengthen cohesion and synergy in governance” while enhancing the administration’s ability to deliver economic results under the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He added that the President exercised his constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) in making the changes.

President Tinubu expressed appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service to the nation and wished them success in their future endeavors. He also reassured remaining cabinet members that efforts to reinvigorate governance will continue.

The statement was signed by Yomi Odunuga, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
