Odii Urges Nigerians to Embrace Patriotism, Unity This Easter

As Christians across the country mark the Easter season, the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria, Charles Odii, has urged Nigerians to embrace renewed patriotism, unity, and collective responsibility as key drivers of national development.

Speaking in Abuja during the Easter period, Odii described the season as a powerful symbol of hope, sacrifice, and renewal, noting that these values are essential for Nigeria’s progress at a time of economic and social challenges.

Odii expressed concern over what he described as a growing decline in patriotism among citizens, warning that this trend poses a serious threat to the country’s future.

While acknowledging that corruption remains a major issue, he stressed that the loss of faith in the nation and its institutions is equally damaging.

According to him, no country can achieve meaningful progress when its citizens become disengaged, lose belief in its promise, or prioritise personal interests above the common good.

Drawing parallels with the message of Easter, Odii said Nigeria must undergo a process of moral and civic renewal similar to the essence of the season.

He explained that just as Easter represents sacrifice and new beginnings, Nigerians must be willing to rebuild trust, act responsibly, and contribute positively to national growth.

He particularly called on the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) community to take an active role in nation-building, noting that their contribution is vital to economic development.

“Patriotism is not merely a feeling; it is a daily commitment demonstrated through integrity, enterprise, and responsibility,” he said.

Odii also reaffirmed his confidence in the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging citizens to support ongoing efforts aimed at revitalising the economy and strengthening national development.

He acknowledged that the road to progress may be difficult but maintained that a united and determined population can overcome existing challenges.

He emphasised that Nigeria’s transformation will not come from government policies alone but from citizens who are inspired by hope and committed to the collective good.

As the Easter message resonates nationwide, Odii said it should serve as a call to rebuild not only institutions but also trust, unity, and national spirit.

He concluded that through renewed patriotism, faith, and cooperation, Nigeria can achieve lasting progress and fulfil its potential as a stronger and more united nation.
