The people of Ndokwa Nation have expressed strong support for Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, commending his administration for what they described as inclusive leadership and ongoing development projects across the state.
The endorsement was given on Tuesday when leaders of the Ndokwa Neku Union (NNU), alongside elders and stakeholders from Ndokwa Nation, paid a courtesy visit to the governor at Government House, Asaba.
Speaking during the visit, President-General of the Ndokwa Neku Union, Chief Amaechi Asugwuni, said the people of Ndokwa were pleased with the governor’s performance and decided to formally express their appreciation.
According to him, Governor Oborevwori has demonstrated fairness, accessibility and commitment to the development of all parts of Delta State, including Ndokwa communities.
He highlighted several projects executed by the administration, including the completion of Ndokwa House, which he described as a major achievement that would serve as a centre for meetings, planning and community development for generations to come.
Asugwuni also praised the completion of the Asaba-Kwale-Ughelli Road, noting that the project has improved transportation and connectivity between Ndokwa communities and other parts of the state.
He further commended the governor’s willingness to engage with stakeholders, saying requests for meetings and consultations had always received positive responses.
Despite the commendation, the Ndokwa leader raised concerns over the persistent electricity challenges facing communities in the area and appealed for the implementation of the proposed Okpai Step-Down Power Facility to improve power supply.
He also condemned the vandalism of electricity infrastructure, describing it as harmful to development efforts and apologised for losses caused by such activities.
According to him, community leaders are working with local security groups to prevent further attacks on public facilities.
The delegation also appealed for additional infrastructure projects and higher educational institutions in Ndokwa land to support economic growth and development.
Asugwuni concluded by announcing a vote of confidence in Governor Oborevwori on behalf of the Ndokwa people, citing his commitment to development, inclusiveness and good governance.
Responding, Governor Oborevwori thanked the people of Ndokwa Nation for their support and assured them that his administration would continue to pursue projects that benefit all parts of the state.
The governor praised the Deputy Governor, Monday Onyeme, for his contributions to the state’s development and also commended the leadership of the Ndokwa Neku Union.
Addressing the issue of electricity, Oborevwori acknowledged the challenges facing Ndokwa communities and said repeated vandalism had slowed efforts to restore power to affected areas.
He disclosed that the state government had approved additional funding for electrification projects and was working with the Transmission Company of Nigeria and other stakeholders to improve electricity supply.
The governor also assured the delegation that the proposed Okpai Step-Down Facility remained under consideration.
On requests for more educational institutions, he noted that Ndokwa Nation already hosts a federal university and encouraged stakeholders to focus on strengthening existing institutions.
He added that several road projects requested by the people had already been approved or were currently under construction.
Oborevwori emphasized that Ndokwa people occupy important positions in his administration, including the offices of the Deputy Governor, Commissioner for Energy and Commissioner for Finance, assuring them that their interests remain well represented.
Speaking on governance, the governor said his administration is focused on delivering projects and improving the lives of residents rather than engaging in unnecessary publicity.
He reiterated that he remains governor for all Deltans, regardless of ethnic background, and pledged to continue distributing development projects fairly across the state.
The visit ended with assurances of continued cooperation between the state government and Ndokwa Nation to promote development, unity and prosperity across Delta State.
