ASABA, Delta State — The capital city of Asaba came alive on Saturday as two prominent families celebrated the traditional marriage of their children in a colourful ceremony attended by dignitaries, political figures, and well-wishers.
The event, held at Crescendo Event Centre, brought together the families of the Delta State Commissioner for Technical Education, Smart Ijeoma Ufoh and his wife, Mrs Angela Ufoh of Nsukwa in Aniocha North Local Government Area, and the family of the late Prince Alexander Aghaliladia Oviawe and late Mrs Paulina Obiageli Oviawe of Okada, Edo State.
Their children, Amaka Glory Ufoh and Emmanuel Aghahowa Oviawe, were formally joined in marriage in a ceremony marked by rich cultural rites, music, and goodwill messages.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Ufoh expressed deep joy and gratitude, describing the occasion as one of the happiest moments of his life.
“Every father prays to witness the marriage of his daughter. Today, that prayer has been answered for me. I am grateful to God Almighty for giving me life to see this day,” he said.
He noted the large turnout of guests, which included members of the political class, professionals, women’s groups, and friends, adding that the venue was filled—a clear demonstration of love and solidarity.
The Commissioner offered prayers for the couple, wishing them a life filled with happiness, prosperity, and good health, expressing optimism about their future.
Advising the newlyweds, Ufoh emphasised tolerance, understanding, and maturity.
“They should learn to manage themselves and resolve issues privately. Respect, perseverance, and endurance are essential for a peaceful and successful marriage,” he said.
The ceremony attracted several high-profile personalities, including the Deputy Governor of Delta State, Monday Onyeme, members of the State Executive Council, and other top government officials.
Among those present were the Dean of Commissioners, Fidelis Okenmor Tilije; the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Ekemejero Ohwovoriole; the Commissioner for Works, Reuben Izeze; the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Pat Ajudua; and the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Odinigwe Odigie Daniel, among others.
Also in attendance were the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Technical Education, Dr Mrs. Gloria Patrick-Ferife, alongside directors and staff of the ministry, who came out in strong support of their Commissioner and his family.
The event chairman, Arc. Kester Ifeadi, commended both families for the successful union and urged the couple to uphold the values of love, unity, and mutual respect.
The ceremony ended on a joyful note with cultural displays, music, and dancing, as guests celebrated the union and offered prayers for the couple’s future.
