Fresh Crisis Rocks APC as Governors Clash Over Alleged Campaign Funds

Fresh cracks have reportedly emerged within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) following allegations of disagreements among governors over funds allegedly linked to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign.

The controversy gained wider attention after it was discussed during an episode of What’s Trending on Arise News aired on Monday, May 11, 2026, and later shared on the X platform. The report, which cited claims by The Will Nigeria, alleged that tensions within the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) have intensified, with Hope Uzodimma reportedly at the centre of the dispute.

According to the claims highlighted during the programme, deductions linked to Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) funds were allegedly moved into accounts associated with structures identified as “Renewed Hope Ambassadors” and later “Renewed Hope Network.” Reports further alleged that questions raised by some governors over how the funds were managed and spent were not properly addressed, leading to growing mistrust within the forum.

The issue has reportedly deepened existing political tensions within the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections, with insiders alleging that rival camps are beginning to emerge among governors loyal to the ruling party. Some reports claimed that another bloc within the Progressive Governors Forum has aligned around Dapo Abiodun and AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, although no official confirmation has been issued regarding any formal split.

The development comes despite recent public shows of unity within the APC. Just days earlier, APC governors publicly reaffirmed their support for Uzodimma’s leadership and President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda amid growing speculation of internal disagreements.

Political observers say the controversy reflects rising pressure within the ruling party as preparations for the next election cycle quietly intensify. Analysts note that campaign financing, internal control of party structures and influence over political mobilisation are already becoming major issues within the APC ahead of 2027.

The allegations have also triggered reactions on social media, with many Nigerians questioning the transparency of political funding and the role of governors in future election planning. Some users on X described the reports as another sign of growing cracks within the ruling party, while others urged caution, noting that no official evidence has yet been publicly released to confirm the allegations.

Others argued that the controversy highlights wider concerns about accountability in Nigerian politics, especially regarding public funds and political campaign structures. A few commenters also linked the development to increasing political realignments and defections ahead of the next general elections.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Presidency nor the Progressive Governors Forum had released an official statement directly addressing the specific allegations surrounding the alleged campaign funds.

However, the issue is expected to remain a major talking point within political circles as Nigerians continue to monitor developments within the ruling party ahead of the 2027 elections.
