FMC Asaba MD Commissions Newly Reconstructed Theatre Pharmacy
The Managing Director of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Asaba, Dr. Ekeneem Omo, on Wednesday marked his birthday with the commissioning of a newly reconstructed modern Theatre Pharmacy, a facility aimed at improving emergency healthcare delivery at the hospital.
The project, executed in partnership with Fidson Healthcare PLC, is described as a major step toward strengthening medical services and ensuring faster access to essential drugs during surgical emergencies.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Omo expressed joy over the completion of the facility, describing it as a product of collaboration, visionary leadership, and commitment to better healthcare delivery.
He noted that the Theatre Pharmacy is strategically located close to the hospital’s operating theatres to ensure that doctors can quickly access essential drugs and consumables during emergencies.
“This project is a symbol of progress and hope. It will play a critical role in saving lives and improving healthcare delivery at FMC Asaba,” he said.
According to him, the new facility replaces a smaller pharmacy unit that was previously unable to accommodate the volume of drugs required for theatre operations.
He explained that the upgraded Theatre Pharmacy is fully stocked and properly arranged to ensure easy access to drugs needed during surgical procedures.
Dr. Omo added that the pharmacy will serve not only the main theatre but also other theatre units within the hospital premises, improving efficiency across departments.
He further disclosed that the hospital’s partnership with Fidson Healthcare PLC will ensure steady supply of essential drugs, noting that the collaboration also benefits both the hospital and the pharmaceutical company.
He urged corporate organisations to invest more in the healthcare sector, describing it as a key pillar for sustainable national development.
Also speaking, the Commercial Director of Fidson Healthcare PLC, Pharm. Ola Ijimakin, said the partnership with FMC Asaba is part of the company’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s healthcare system.
He explained that Fidson will ensure consistent supply of theatre-related drugs and maintain the facility to guarantee smooth operation.
According to him, the new Theatre Pharmacy is equipped with storage facilities, working spaces for pharmacists, and administrative areas to support efficient drug management.
He assured that the company will continue to support the hospital to ensure the pharmacy operates 24 hours a day, providing uninterrupted access to essential medicines for surgical needs.
The commissioning marks a dual celebration of leadership and service, highlighting efforts to improve healthcare delivery at FMC Asaba through public-private partnership.
