Delta APC: We’ll campaign on performance, not personal attacks

The All Progressives Congress Campaign Council in Delta State has pledged to focus on governance and performance in its 2027 election campaign, warning politicians against threats and violence.

The Chairman of the council’s Media Committee, Charles Aniagwu, stated this on Monday during a media briefing in Asaba, saying the party would present its record and policies to voters instead of engaging in personal attacks.

“Electoral violence and threats to kill people are not part of our campaign strategy,” Aniagwu said when asked about a reported warning by former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege over alleged election rigging.

He added that the party would not engage in electoral malpractice and urged residents to judge it based on its performance and the evidence presented during the campaign.

Aniagwu advised political leaders to be careful with their public statements, urging anyone who suspected electoral malpractice to report it to security agencies rather than resort to violence.

“Delta State is not a jungle republic. We must not encourage jungle justice or violence, regardless of political affiliation,” he said.

The committee chairman said the APC would focus on what the state and Federal Government had achieved in areas such as roads, healthcare, education, housing and security.

On the economic hardship facing Nigerians, Aniagwu acknowledged the difficulties confronting households and businesses but said some government policies needed time to produce the expected benefits.

“We will not ignore the economic challenges Nigerians are experiencing. We recognise the realities confronting households and businesses, but we will also explain the measures taken by the federal and state governments to address them,” he said.

He also called for accountability in political campaigns, insisting that political connections should not shield anyone from the consequences of unlawful conduct.

Asked about investigations into previous political incidents in the state, Aniagwu did not provide figures for arrests or prosecutions, saying the police should give details on the status of the investigations.

He said the committee would maintain engagement with journalists during the campaign and provide information on the APC’s candidates for state and federal elections, including the governorship and presidential contests.
