A 200 LEVEL STUDENT ARRESTED FOR FAKE CERTIFICATE – NYSC

The National Youth Service Corps has arrested a 200 level student, who allegedly obtain a fake degree certificate and who currently was undergoing the orientation exercise at Zamfara State camp.

It was gathered that last Friday, the NYSC apprehended the student who only identified herself as Rose. She is an undergraduate of journalism at a university of Benin Republic.

Rose was undergoing the Batch C stream 1 orientation course before she was arrested.

The NYSC Director-General, Brig. Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, confirmed the arrest of the student to Newsmen.

He said, the Benin Republic university wrote to the scheme when his officials discovered her on the social media, posting pictures of herself with NYSC uniform on the Zamfara State camp.

The DG noted that the student had been brought to the federal capital territory, Abuja, where she was handed over to officials of the Department of state service for further investigation.

While still speaking, the DG warned that the NYSC would clamp down on fake graduates and certificate. Adding that, anyone arrested would be handed over for prosecution.

The DG also said, “The clamp down on graduate and fake certificates is yielding more results. On Friday, one of the Universities in Cotonou, Benin Republic saw their 200 level student in the NYSC uniform on the social media. She is suppose to be a 200 level of the University studying journalism.

“But she went and purchase a fake certificate from another Benin Republic university and now serve in the Zamfara State camp. So, her course-mate saw her on the social media and raise alarm to the University management, which then alarted and wrote to me.

“The university said they recognize the effort of the scheme in nabbing fake graduates and they were not a party to her fake certificate. So we got her arrested in Zamfara State camp. She was brought to Abuja and we arranged with the DSS to take her away”.
