Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has mourned former governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, crediting him with contributing to the state’s infrastructure development and promoting unity across ethnic lines.
Uduaghan died on Monday, October 19, 2026, at the age of 71, according to a statement by his family.
Oborevwori, in a condolence message issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Festus Ahon, said the former governor would be remembered for his contributions to the development of Delta State and his ability to work across ethnic lines.
The governor sympathised with Uduaghan’s wife, Roli, his children, the wider family, the Itsekiri nation and the people of Delta State.
He described the late politician as a detribalised leader who placed the overall development of the state above ethnic differences.
Uduaghan served as Delta State Commissioner for Health from 1999 to 2003 and Secretary to the State Government from 2003 to 2007 before becoming governor in May 2007. He served two terms and left office in 2015.
Oborevwori said Uduaghan’s years in public service had left a lasting mark on the state.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of the former governor’s soul and asked God to comfort his family and others mourning his death.
