A tragic incident has occurred in Saniko Community, Agbarha-Otor, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, where three children of the same grandparents found drowned in an abandoned fish pond on Sunday.
The victims were identified as Great Anthony Ikpera, 6 years old, Goodluck Anthony Ikpera, 8 years old, and Vwegba Jite Ikpera, 12 years old, of the Ikpera family of Awirhe community, Agbarha-Otor.
The incident has thrown the community into mourning, as sympathizers continue to troop to the homes of their parents to console the bereaved families.
According to the President of the Agbarha Youth Council, AYC, Coach Rufus Ovotu and an anonymous family member who spoke to our reporter, said, the parents of the children had on Saturday raised an alarm over the missing children, and a search team was launched to look for them to no avail throughout the day.
While the search continued on Sunday morning, their bodies were found floating at the same spot in an abandoned fish pond beside a flowing stream behind the community, where they might have gone to swim.
Their bodies have been recovered and were immediately buried by the stream side.
The youth leader called on parents to always be vigilant about their children’s whereabouts, especially by monitoring them and preventing them from going to the stream, as the water level is very high.
