The Nigerian Army has declared 38 senior commanders of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) wanted following an intelligence breakthrough during military operations in Borno State.
The Headquarters of Operation HADIN KAI, in a statement issued on Wednesday, said the identities of the suspected terrorist leaders were uncovered after troops recovered a camcorder and other intelligence materials during offensive operations in the Lake Chad region.
According to the military, forensic analysis of the recovered devices exposed the identities, roles and locations of the commanders operating within the Mangari-Metele-Dogon Chukun axis in Abadam and Kukawa Local Government Areas of Borno State.
The army identified Abu Musa Al-Mangawi Baa Shuwa as the group’s Wali (governor) and one of the most wanted ISWAP leaders in the Lake Chad Basin.
It also listed Muhammad Jidda, popularly known as “The One-Handed Man,” who serves as the group’s deputy leader and Amirul Jaish, alongside Hamad Abu Hanifa, identified as the Amirul-Fiya of the terrorist organisation.
The military said a financial reward would be given to anyone who provides credible information leading to the arrest of Abu Musa Al-Mangawi Baa Shuwa.
It assured members of the public that all information received would be treated confidentially and the identities of informants would be protected.
