A member of the Delta State House of Assembly representing Ughelli North Constituency I, Hon. Matthew Onojighofia Omonade, has praised Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for standing by him during what he described as one of the most difficult periods of his political career.
In a tribute titled “Hope Restored: My Personal Tribute to Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori,” Omonade said the governor’s support renewed his confidence and gave him hope when he believed his political future was over.
The lawmaker said he spent more than two years in the opposition, where he shouldered leadership responsibilities and made personal sacrifices to keep the political movement alive.
According to him, he sold two of his personal vehicles to fund party activities because he received little or no support at the time.
Omonade said his challenges worsened after attending an APC meeting following Governor Oborevwori’s defection to the All Progressives Congress in 2025.
He alleged that the decision led to attacks on his character and efforts by some individuals to frustrate his political ambition.
The lawmaker said the pressure affected his health, revealing that he collapsed twice during the period but survived by God’s grace.
He said as the 2026 primary election approached, he believed his political journey had come to an end until Governor Oborevwori quietly intervened on his behalf.
“God used him to restore my hope, renew my confidence and strengthen my faith in the future He had prepared for me,” Omonade stated.
He described the governor as a humble leader who believes in people, identifies talents and encourages others to succeed.
Omonade also referred to the emotional reaction of newly appointed Commissioner Moses Ogodo during his swearing-in, saying it reflected years of perseverance and eventual reward after decades in politics.
He said Ogodo’s experience reminded him that hope can be restored even after years of disappointment.
The lawmaker thanked Governor Oborevwori for believing in him and many others, saying the governor had demonstrated that loyalty, patience and competence were still rewarded in leadership.
He prayed for God’s continued guidance, wisdom, good health and protection for the governor as he continues to lead Delta State.
