The Delta State House of Assembly on Tuesday began a six-week annual recess to allow lawmakers take a break, attend training programmes and engage with their constituents.
The decision followed a motion moved by the Majority Leader, Emeka Nwaobi, and seconded by Pereotu Oloye, representing Burutu II Constituency. The motion was unanimously adopted during plenary presided over by the Speaker, Emomotimi Guwor.
Before adjourning the House, Guwor commended the lawmakers for their dedication and commitment throughout the legislative session.
He urged members to use the break to improve their legislative knowledge through scheduled training programmes and to visit their constituencies to interact with residents and gather their concerns for legislative action.
The Speaker said the training would help lawmakers improve their performance and better serve the people of the state.
Guwor also praised the management and staff of the Assembly for their professionalism and support, saying their efforts had contributed to the smooth running of legislative activities.
He commended journalists for providing balanced and consistent coverage of the Assembly’s proceedings, committee meetings and oversight functions, urging them to continue supporting the legislature by keeping the public informed.
The Speaker also appreciated other stakeholders for their contributions to the passage of bills and motions aimed at improving the lives of residents.
He wished members, staff and other stakeholders safe travels during the recess and expressed hope that they would return refreshed for the next legislative session.
The House is expected to resume plenary on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
