Residents of several communities in Delta State have received new solar-powered boreholes and street lights following a community development project carried out by Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL) in partnership with Grosvenor Global Services Limited.
The projects, which were commissioned in Okpe and Sapele Local Government Areas, include solar street lights installed in Ajomata, Ikweghwu and Ibada-Amukpe communities, as well as solar-powered boreholes provided in Ibada-Elume, Oyohen, Amukpe and Adagrassa communities.
The initiative is aimed at improving access to clean water, boosting security at night and enhancing the quality of life for residents in the benefiting communities.
Speaking during the inauguration, the Managing Director of TSSNL, Engr. Kestin Pondi, represented by the company’s Manager of Community Relations, Pastor Seimode A. Benedict, said the projects reflected the company’s commitment to supporting communities where it operates.
Pondi explained that the projects were executed by Grosvenor Global Services Limited, one of Tantita’s subcontractors, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility programme.
According to him, protecting Nigeria’s oil and gas facilities should also involve improving the welfare of host communities.
“We at Tantita encourage our partners and subcontractors to support projects that address the needs of residents and promote peaceful coexistence. As we commission these projects today, let us continue to strengthen the bond of trust, cooperation and mutual respect that has made our collective successes possible,” he said.
He also urged residents of the benefiting communities to protect and properly maintain the facilities so they can serve the people for a long time.
Responding, the Chairman of Ajomata Community in Sapele Local Government Area, Mr. Cyril Omor-Oba, said the solar street lights would improve security and make it easier for residents to move around at night. He appealed for more street lights and assured the companies that the facilities would be protected.
Representatives of Ibada-Amukpe and Ikweghwu communities also expressed appreciation, saying the street lights had improved visibility on major roads and public places.
Similarly, the Chairman of Ibada-Elume Community, Mr. Friday Omerhiowan, described the solar-powered borehole as a timely intervention that would provide residents with easier access to clean drinking water.
The projects are expected to improve access to safe water, strengthen security and support social and economic activities in the benefiting communities.
