Court Orders Final Forfeiture of Aisha Achimugu’s ₦8.9bn Assets to FG

A Federal Capital Territory High Court in Apo, Abuja, has ordered the final forfeiture of assets linked to businesswoman Aisha Achimugu to the Federal Government.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission said the assets were suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities, adding that the court granted its application for permanent forfeiture on Thursday.

Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie ruled that Achimugu failed to prove that the assets were acquired through legitimate sources of income.

The forfeited assets include jewellery valued at about ₦4.65 billion, 11 luxury vehicles worth about ₦4.29 billion, $50,000 and ₦30 million in cash.

According to the EFCC, investigations began after financial intelligence revealed large inflows and outflows running into billions of naira and millions of dollars through more than 136 bank accounts linked to Achimugu.

The commission alleged that the funds passing through companies associated with her were not declared as revenue in financial statements submitted to the Federal Inland Revenue Service.

The anti-graft agency said it recovered the assets during searches conducted at Achimugu’s residence.

It also alleged that although she completed an assets declaration form during the investigation, she did not declare the recovered properties.

The EFCC subsequently obtained an interim forfeiture order from the court in April 2026 and published notices in national newspapers inviting anyone with an interest in the assets to challenge the application.

Achimugu, through her lawyers, opposed the forfeiture and asked the court to set aside the interim order.

However, after hearing arguments from both parties, Justice Onwuegbuzie ruled that she failed to provide sufficient evidence that the assets were lawfully acquired.

The court consequently granted the EFCC’s request and ordered the final forfeiture of the assets to the Federal Government.
