Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has praised the Delta State Police Command for arresting two suspected electric cable vandals and recovering stolen cables during an operation in the state.
The governor described the arrests as a major achievement in the fight against vandalism, saying they would help protect government infrastructure and ensure public facilities continue to serve residents.
In a statement issued on Saturday by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Oborevwori commended the Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, as well as officers and men of the command for their swift response and commitment to tackling crime across the state.
He also applauded members of a local vigilante group for working with the police during the operation, noting that the successful arrest reflects the government’s determination to safeguard public assets and prevent the destruction of critical infrastructure.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, operatives of the Kwale Police Station, acting on credible intelligence and in collaboration with the local vigilante group, raided the Ibabu–Ugiliamai Road on June 25, 2026, where the suspects were allegedly dismantling and stealing electric cables.
The suspects reportedly attempted to escape after spotting the security team but were arrested during the operation. One of them sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment in a hospital, while the other remains in police custody.
The police identified the suspects as Osakwe Sunday, 28, and Ekene Obocha, 34. The vandalised electric cables were recovered as exhibits.
Governor Oborevwori urged residents to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information that would help prevent crime and bring offenders to justice.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting public infrastructure and maintaining a safe and secure environment across Delta State.
Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police Yemi Oyeniyi warned criminals to stay away from vandalising government facilities and other public assets, stressing that the command would continue to identify, arrest and prosecute anyone involved in such crimes.
He also appealed to members of the public to sustain their cooperation with the police by volunteering useful information to help prevent crime and improve security across the state.
